The Sexy Stars of Mollywood or Malayalam Film Industry

You must have heard about "Hollywood". And Asians, especially, the Indians are familiar with "Bollywood". Then what is "Mollywood"? Before answering that, I need to explain something about the Bollywood. Bollywood is equivalent to Hollywood as this is the title given for the Bombay Film Industry. Films in Hindi were and are still mostly made in Bombay and the whole industry collectively worked in that city. The Hindi cinema industry thus got the title “Bollywood” as the English cinema industry got the title “Hollywood”.

“Mollywood” is the phrase given to Malayalam cinema industry. If you are clueless about Malayalam, I may add that this is the language of the people of Kerala, a Southern state of India. This label was thus naturally given in tune or rhythm with the words “Bolly” and “Holly”. The word “Mollywood “ zincs well with the word “Malayalam” sound wise and spelling wise. Thus the phrase became popular and all began to use it.

Incidentally, I may update you that the Telugu film industry (Andhra Pradesh) got the title “Tollywood”, Kannada (Karnataka) and Tamil (Tamil Nadu) Film Industries got the phrases “Sandalwood” and “Kollywood” respectively. It is interesting to note all South Indian film industries got some kind of meaningful and attention-grabbing names.

The Place of Malayalam Films in the Indian Film World

The Malayalam film world has a significant place in the Indian film industry. A large number of prestigious national and international awards were conferred upon the great talents of both off -screen and on-screen from Kerala. The famous Film Directors from the state are Adoor Gopalakrishnan, G. Aravindan, Shaji Karun, John Abraham, Padmarajan, Bharathan, K.G. George, and Priyadharshan to name a few. Mohanlal, Mammootty, Thilakan, Gopi, Nedumudi Venu, Jagathy Sreekumar, Prem Nazeer and Sathyan from male category and Jayabharathi, Sarada, Seema, Sobhana, Urvasi, KPCC Sulochana, Sukumari, Manju Warrier etc from the female category have brought many accolades to the industry. They were (and some still) are the great acting talents of the industry. The famous play back singers Dr. K.J. Yesudas and S. Janaki still do their magic with the best voices. Their songs are all time masterpiece.

Since the topic “Mollywood” is so vast and beyond the scope of a mere hub, I wish to limit my briefing here on a small segment- The Most Beautiful and Loved Contemporary Actresses.
